the first of the "i love you" tribute series - instrumental hip hop album inspired by and dedicated to phoenix, one of bouxthang's favorite modern bands.

bouxthang celebrates his unique hip hop roots with this assemblage of progressive instrumentals, written in a single 10-hour recording session over the course of just one weekend. using unreleased phoenix recordings as source material; each track was composed solely on a simplified cut-and-paste wave editing program, a beat composition style bouxthang pioneered and perfected in the mid- to late-1990's.

this "beat tape" is a refreshing throwback . "phoenix, i love you" is a retro-underground reminder of beats and loops on cassette with no rapping, singing, or live instrumentation; just creative and inspired, traditional yet forward-thinking hip hop music.
